EMDR & SOMATIC therapy IN RENO, NV
True, lasting healing begins in the nervous system.
Many people think healing or “getting over something” happens by talking about what happened.
While insight is important, some experiences are simply too overwhelming to be processed through words alone. Trauma, grief, betrayal, neglect, abuse, and other painful experiences can become woven into the nervous system, influencing how we respond to stress, relationships, conflict, loss, and everyday life.
EMDR and Somatic Therapy help your brain and body process experiences that may still be impacting you long after the event itself has passed.
maybe you’re here because...
Since your loved one died, you haven't felt like yourself.
Part of you is terrified that healing or actually grieving means leaving your loved one behind.
Your childhood (and its difficulties) are still affecting you and showing up more than you'd like to admit.
You've spent years caring for everyone else, but underneath, you're exhausted, overwhelmed, and unsure what you actually need anymore.
Deep down, you know there has to be a way of existing that’s better than this—you just don't know how to get there.
There is a life ahead beyond pain & grief.
What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is one of the most researched and effective treatments for trauma.
Sometimes our minds understand that an event is over, but our bodies and nervous systems continue responding as though it's still happening. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation—such as eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones—to help the brain process experiences that have become "stuck."
As healing unfolds, the memory remains, but it often loses its grip. What once felt overwhelming becomes easier to carry, allowing you to move through life with greater freedom, regulation, and peace.
What is somatic therapy?
"Somatic" simply means "of the body." This body-based approach to healing focuses on the connection between your nervous system, emotions, and physical experiences.
Many of us spend years disconnected from our bodies without realizing it. We push through stress, ignore our emotions, suppress grief, and override the signals our nervous system is trying to send us.
Somatic Experiencing™ helps you slow down and develop a deeper awareness of your body's responses to stress, trauma, grief, and everyday life. Essentially, you’re learning how to work with your nervous system instead of feeling controlled by it.
We’re allowing your brain and body to process things differently—not erase what happened.

FAQs
COMMON QUESTIONS
-
Many clients come to me after traditional talk therapy has helped them gain insight, but they still feel stuck. They understand what happened and why, but their bodies continue to react as though the threat is still present or the experience “just” happened, even after years of time. EMDR and somatic therapy help address the emotional and nervous system patterns that insight alone may not fully resolve.
-
Not always. While these approaches can be incredibly powerful, there are times when additional support or a higher level of care may be the best place to begin.
Because I work in a private practice setting, clients experiencing active suicidal thoughts or requiring more intensive support are often better served in environments that offer greater levels of care and crisis resources. My goal is always to help you find the support that best matches your needs, whether that's with me or through another trusted provider.
-
Not necessarily. One of the reasons many people appreciate EMDR and somatic therapy is that they don't require you to repeatedly tell your story or relive every detail of a painful experience. We move at a pace that feels safe and supportive, focusing on healing rather than retraumatization.

Both approaches help process trauma and overwhelming life experiences, but they work in slightly different ways. EMDR focuses on helping the brain reprocess distressing memories, while somatic therapy focuses on how those experiences are stored in the body and nervous system. Depending on your needs, we may use one approach or integrate them together.
-
Yes. Many adult struggles—including relationship challenges, people-pleasing, difficulty setting boundaries, anxiety, self-doubt, and chronic feelings of not being enough—can be connected to early experiences. EMDR and somatic therapy can help process those experiences while creating new ways of relating to yourself and others. You can learn more about my approach to trauma HERE.

EMDR and Somatic Therapy are two of the primary approaches I use in my practice, particularly when supporting clients through grief, trauma, betrayal, childhood experiences, and other life events that continue to feel emotionally overwhelming.
I have completed two EMDR Trainings and am currently an Intermediate Level II Somatic Experiencing ™ student, working toward certification through a three-year training program. Because trauma, loss, and difficult experiences impact both the mind and the body, I often integrate these approaches to help clients process what feels stuck, build nervous system resilience, and reconnect with themselves in a deeper way.
